Welcome to the
home of champions. For over 10 years, Moto Carrera-powered Yamaha
twins have proven themselves with renowned reliability. A motor has
to last in order to win. The lessons learned in competition have
enabled us to build more reliable & rider-friendly 2-stroke
powerplants for street & recreation use. Each engine we build
receives the same attention to detail as those in our race bikes, &
yes,... even though you might be
just a street rider, consider that street riding in traffic, on a
hot day, can be some of the most brutal torture a two-stroke engine
can endure.
We offer performance modifications
& two-stroke engine
services including crankshaft rebuilding, porting, cylinder boring, transmission
rebuilding & undercutting, carburetor rebuilding, cylinder head
rechambering, &
performance tuning. Our
shop rate is $80. per hour. Performance tuning, including jetting &
timing, is $120. hr. (using your motorcycle at our shop). We are fast & proficient, since
two-stroke sportbikes are all we do. We use only the finest parts
available including genuine Yamaha & pistons by Pro-X.
All
porting & cylinder head specs are derived from the most current
development data in the industry including software
by TSR. You will
benefit from years of development culminating in hundreds of race
wins, numerous national championships & world land speed records. Our dominance on the track is testament to our
exactingly high standards. All modifications represent only the most
recent data obtained from both competition & dyno testing, not
black magic that our competitors used in the '70s. Whether you ride
for recreation or race competitively, you will receive professional
engine services that are second to none in the industry. Worldwide
shipping & rush service available.
Don't trust your 2-stroke powerplant to
anyone but our experts. When it's time for your next rebuild
or upgrade consider this: we do nothing but 2-strokes, our
prices are quite competitive and our reputation for customer
satisfaction and performance is the best in the business.
Ship your motor to the pros at Moto Carrera! You'll be glad
you did.

Production
Schedule/Turnaround |
|
Some machine jobs such as
crank building and boring are still handled rather
quickly, allow 7-10 working days, or so. However,
turnaround estimates on complete motor jobs can vary
from day to day, since it's impossible to forecast
rush jobs and other factors such as parts availability
and number of actual tech hours available in any given
week. Not many people want to work more than 40 hours
a week, (can you blame them?), even though some of
ours regularly do. With increasing
volume, turnaround time increases accordingly. Add to that, the occasional rush
projects, our custom bikes, which all need engines, and
the fact that several of our competitors have ceased
taking service work,.....you see where we are going
here. The volume of jobs & labor hours booked is way
up. Our schedule is almost gridlocked, but flowing
smoothly, so please be patient.
Allow us a couple of months or so for a complete motor
or cylinder porting. We would like to get them out to you much
sooner, but with our current volume, and that of our
porting machinist, it's best for
your blood pressure not to count on it! We
want to meet or exceed your expectations in every way.
Don't hesitate to send us your motor job, just expect
to wait a little longer for some of your quality
engine services than you did in the past. You'll be
glad you did! |
|
Rush Service
Available |
|
Due to
current volume, as of 11/12/05, turnaround estimation is
approx
6-12 working days for boring and crank building, and
30-45 working days for cylinder porting, at our normal
production schedule. But if you need something done really
quick, if it's realistic, we will make every
reasonable attempt to meet your deadline for double
our normal labor rates. We understand that
sometimes things break just before an event and it
just has to be fixed in time. Call us to make sure
it's logistically possible and we'll make
reservations. We can ship anywhere including directly
to the racetrack, even on Sundays! We'll try to save
the day if you're willing to pay. |

Expert Cylinder Porting |
|
|
All porting is done
directly by Moto Carrera's esteemed engine builders,
not an apprentice!
Scott Clough was multi-time AFM southern
California 350 production champion on an RD350 back
when these bikes were new! Scott gained national
prominence when Cycle World magazine did a 1975
feature article on his RD racing dominance &
tuning expertise (he actually still looks the same as
he did 28 years ago!). Since then Scott has ported
& built hundreds of two-stroke motorcycle &
watercraft engines, dozens of them race-winners. Scott
has been with us building cranks, cutting cylinder
heads & porting cylinders for over 8 years.

Street
or race, porting is where the big power gains can be
acheived. |
-
Stage 1 is
$400. per set for all R5, RD, RZ & Banshee. This porting
delivers strong power gains throughout the powerband for optimum
throttle response. A smart
option for a very streetable, torquey motor with a broad
powerband. Unlike our competition's 'stage1' this is a true,
complete port job, not a "buff & fluff". All ports
are modified throughout, not just a few & not in just some
easy-to-reach areas. Anything less just isn't a port
job.
-
Stage 2
porting is $550. per set, for all R5, RD, RZ & Banshee. This
is what we recommend for strong upper mid-range & top-end
power gains. We completely modify the transfer, exhaust &
intake port heights, transfer port angle & volume, intake
& exhaust shape, including extensively modifying the boost
port. This makes for a serious race or very aggressive street
powerplant. Cylinder head modification ($90.) is required. These
specs have many championships & world records to their
credit, all of which have been derived from state-of-the-art,
race-proven TSR software. Don't be fooled by inexpensive porting
offers. A good job is very labor intensive & consequently,
(if you're lucky) you get just what you pay for!

High output

Performance Tuning
The final equasion
If you're bike is out here in
California, we offer carburetor jetting & ignition timing by
one of our technicians. When it comes to jetting Mikuni carbs on
both stock & modified 2-strokes, we have nearly 40 years of
combined experience. When you've had enough of that mid-range flat-spot,
or are tired of holing pistons, schedule an appointment with our
shop today. Most bikes require only an hour or two to dial-in. Bike must
be registered & safe (good, fresh tires, steering bearings, swingarm bushings, brakes, etc.). Labor rate for performance
tuning is $120. hr.
We highly
recommend & proudly carry Motul lubricants for maximum
engine life in all applications. Pre-mixing is recommended
for maximum lubrication & performance.
Racing fuel is
necessary for maximum power output, however, we can adjust
compression as necessary for street use with pump gas.
