Imboden on the Podium With The Big Bikes at Buttonwillow!
Northern California's new AFM vintage hotshoe, Ryan Imboden, on his
blazing-fast, Moto Carrera RD400, ran well against the big bikes at
Buttonwillow last weekend. Gridded against 750 Ducatis, as well as the
venerable H2R of Dave Crussell, possibly the fastest vintage bike in
the country, Ryan charged to third place on the first lap and knocked
on the door of 2nd place at the checkered flag. Riding the
bright yellow RD400 like a man possessed, Ryan was experiencing severe
rear wheel hop under acceleration in one corner at over 100mph,
getting his attention each time, as you can well imagine. "Today
I got chatter in a turn doing about 105 mph, I was able to correct it
but shit my pants!" . Wheel flex is
the culprit, even with the heavy stock RD cast rims, Crussell & others
noticed the abuse Ryan was feeding the rear end, prompting an order
for a new set of Excel rims with the big 8 ga. spokes. This will save
some unsprung weight as well. For Ryan's race
report, click here. |

Look Cool at the Racetrack with a Moto
Carrera T-Shirt!
Show them you know what's
up with one of our classic t-shirts, freshly re-done art & graphics of
our popular designs, by artist extraordinaire, Bob Wakefield. From the
famous old-school Moto Carrera / Kenny Roberts shirt, to the RD400
wheely shirt, the artwork is fresh and new, with much better
resolution and detail than before. The yellow Yamaha race shirt is re
introduced in a better yellow color than before and a strobe stripe
that really pops. Daytona lovers will want a couple of the special
Wakefield tribute to the bike as well as Kenny Roberts in action. The
gold in the lettering is metallic like the OEM graphics. If you want
us to do a t-shirt to t-shirt to celebrate your bike, let us know. The
more requests we get, the better the chance of us designing one.
Designs I've been thinking of are RZ350, RD350, and an early TZ shirt.
Check out the t-shirts. |

Two-Stroke Extravaganza Rocks Bigger Than Ever!
Woodley Park was the scene for this year's 2-Stroke Extravaganza,
hosted by Moto Carrera & Motul. The turnout was over double what we've
had in years past and included visits by such high-performance
celebrities as Dan Gurney & Jay Leno, who rode in on a super-clean
Suzuki X-6 Hustler. From the looks of his eyes, Jay looks like he was
up 'til the wee hours of the morning getting it ready for the show!
The little red 250 was beautiful but with the weight Jay's packing, he
needs us to fix him up a 350 or 400! The hamburger line was served in
record time, thanks to Donna & Claudio. The burgers were the best
ever, thanks to Stan Mendell, whose beautiful RG500 won a trophy. His
Hodaka was out of this world as well. Everywhere you turned, it was
one beautiful two-stroke show bike after another.

Imboden spanks 'em
again at Infineon
In his
second AFM middleweight vintage race in Infineon raceway, Ryan Imboden &
his Moto Carrera RD400 race bike again took the holeshot & motored away
from the field. Turning 2:08 lap times he had a 12 second lead by the
end of lap one! From the
accounts I've heard, he was really flogging the bike. Between our
strongest engine yet, Millennium GP pipes, Motul oil to keep it
lubricated, and Ryan's incredible talent, it appears the competition
has some big catching-up to do. If you get a chance to go to the AFM
roadraces at Infineon or Thunderhill, stop by the pits & say Hi. As
fast as he is, he's even a nicer guy. Congratulations Ryan, you rock! More photos! |

Our Newest Restoration, Jeff Hartzler's
RD350B
The latest creation to leave
our restoration shop is the '75 RD350B of Broomfield, Colorado's Jeff
Hartzler. They always seem to get better than the last one, & this
beauty is no exception! We over-restored lots of things that Yamaha
didn't pay any attention to, such as the triple clamp hardware, which
we chromed, as well as the motor mount bolts and various other
fasteners. We also bright-polished the hubs and fork legs, for a
little extra 'pop', and believe me, this baby pops! Thanks to Boris,
at California Cycle Design for the show quality paint. Jesse from
Chrome Connection handled all of the chrome, and did a fantastic job.
We used Firman & Jesse at Astro for the aluminum polishing and powder
coating, as usual, they did great work. Al at Johnson & Wood laced the
wheels, and Pete's Upholstery stretched an Eldorado seat cover on at
the last minute, after a disgruntled ex-employee slashed a previously
un-sat-on NOS seat just as the bike was finished!

Pop Open the Champaign! Del Mar Special #10 has Sold!
That's right! We just sold DMS#10 to Stephen Kaizen of
Maryland. This is a landmark sale for us and the heritage of the Del
Mar Special. We never dreamed of selling even 2 of these screamers,
let alone 10! With the number of inquiries we've gotten lately, we'll
probably sell a few more. The famous Del Mar Mile is off the AMA
calendar this year and all west coast national races might be gone
forever. Check out more details and photos of the
Del Mar Special here. |

Our Latest Custom Creation; The Latigo Canyon Special!
The Latigo Canyon Special is just the latest RD canyon racer to roll
out of Moto Carrera's very busy speed shop. This radical RD400 street
fighter/canyon racer was sold to Rhode Island's Tim Cousens. Tim went
with stage one porting, RZ intakes and TM34 flatslides for a setup
that should generate big Rhode Island wheelies! The bike sports RD350
hubs with 2.50x18 Excel rims shod with Avon Super Venoms, Moto Carrera
swingarm with Works Gasser shocks, and $750. LSL Mig headlights! You
can expect us to build a lot more of these beauties from the response
we've gotten from enthusiasts worldwide.

Rocked!
With a large turnout of some of the most beautiful 2-stroke
motorcycles in the world, for six exciting hours Hansen Dam

coordinated the bike show and presented trophies in 37 different
categories. Big winners were John Brewton with 4 trophies for his

Cole with his superb collection of rare exotics. Thanks to all who
attended and participated for making this the biggest event yet!

Sept. '04 Cycle World Features our Del
Mar Special!
We finally made it to the big
time! I remember reading my first Cycle World magazine in 1969 as a
dreamy eyed 10-yr old kid who just got his first motorcycle. Getting
one of my bikes featured in it was always beyond my wildest dreams.
Right there on page 74, in the American Flyers section, along with
legendary chopper builder Chica! Granted, it's not the cover, but to
us, this is as big as the academy award! Check it out if you can still
find an issue, or click here. |

H2 750 TT Special is St. Louis Bound
Our latest custom creation,
the Triple Tracker Special, just shipped to new owner Donn
Schucker. Several long months in the making, this one-of-a-kind
rocketship is destined for a life of Donn's famous one-handed wheelies
and several mid-west bike shows. It was recently unveiled at La Mirada
to a very receptive crowd of Kaw triples lovers as well as making an
impression on the judges by winning the Purple Haze Racing "Best
Triple Restoration" trophy. The bike sports a stage one Moto Carrera
powerplant with TM32 flatslides, producing an estimated 105hp and
weighing in at under 300 lbs, for a power to weight ratio that is
scary. Check out these
bitchen photos. |

Check out This RD350 Restoration!
We recently finished a beautiful RD350 for super RD enthusiast/collector
Kevin McKee of San Francisco. This is much more than your average
RD350 show bike. It happens to be powered by a Dale Alexander long-rod
375cc race engine, with modified baffles in the mufflers! The steering
damper and braided steel brake line are clues
that there's more than meets the eye. He's an ex-racer & I hear
that he rides the wheels off it. Talk about a great Skyline Drive
sleeper! Check it out. |

They're Back! The Sweetest Bars on the

The beautiful Moto Carrera GP 2-piece clip-on handlebar. Designed by
us, these works
of art are CNC machined from 6061-T6 billet and feature a beefy
three-bolt stanchion clamp, stainless steel fasteners and thick-walled
handlebars. Expensive to make, but demand was so great since we sold
out of our first production run, we decided to bring them back.
Compare to the rest & you'll see why. Visit our
handlebar page. |
